German-English Parallel Text, Die Überraschung, Kapitel 5

Kapitel 5. Wo bist du?

  1. Kerstin nähert sich Roberts Freunden, Matthias und Karl.
  2. “Hallo! Wie geht es euch? Ich bin froh, euch zu sehen!”
  3. “Hallo Kerstin! Was für eine Überraschung: du bist in Stuttgart! Uns geht es gut, und dir?”
  4. “Mir geht es auch gut, danke. Ich bin hier, um Robert eine Überraschung zu bereiten. Wisst ihr, wo er ist?”
  5. “Tut mir leid, wir wissen es nicht: wir sehen Robert nicht seit zwei Tagen. Warum trinkst du nicht ein Glas Wein mit uns?”
  6. Aber Kerstin will mit Karl und Matthias keinen Wein trinken; sie will nur ihren Freund finden und ihren Jahrestag feiern!
  7. Jetzt ist Kerstin müde und verwirrt.
  8. Sie weiss nicht mehr, wohin sie gehen soll. Robert ist weder zu Hause, noch im Büro, noch in der Kneipe. Wo kann er sein?

Chapter 5. Where Are You?

  1. Kerstin approaches two of Robert’s friends, Matthias and Karl.
  2. “Hi! How are you? How nice to see you!”
  3. “Hi, Kerstin! What a surprise to see you here in Stuttgart! We’re fine, how are you?”
  4. “I’m fine, too, thanks. I’m here to surprise Robert. Do you know where he is?”
  5. “Sorry, no, we don’t know where he is, we haven’t seen Robert for two days. Why don’t you have a glass of wine with us?”
  6. But Kerstin doesn’t want to drink wine with Karl and Matthias; she wants only to find her boyfriend and celebrate their anniversary!
  7. Now Kerstin is tired and confused.
  8. She doesn’t know where to go. Robert is not at home, nor at the office, nor at the pub. Where can he be?
